Office Hours this week
Please note that the office is closed on Monday and Tuesday, due to staff training.  Office hours will be reduced on Wednesday and Thursday, so please phone ahead if you're going to make a special trip to the church.  The office will be open as usual on Friday.
Do you have any unwanted books, DVD’s, CD’s, Games & Puzzles (adults & children’s titles) that are in good, working condition?  If so, we'd love for you to donate them at church over the next few weeks.  On Sunday March 17 we will be running a stall at all 3 services, so remember to bring some cash along! This is an great opportunity to recycle any of these unwanted items, so if you are planning a spring clean – start now and donate to this excellent cause.  Please place any donated items in the boxes in the church reception.  Cat Carter and the Romania Team -cat.carter02@gmail.com
Andy's challenge
Several people have asked for a reminder of the challenge Andy issued in his sermon last Sunday.  You can catch up on the website if you weren't able to hear it in person.
  • How might you connect or reconnect with God in this Lent season?
  • Who will you inform about your idea as to how to connect/reconnect so that they can encourage you?
Lent reading app recommendation - Lent Pilgrim from the Church of England - this is a free app, available through the Apple App store and Google Play.  A 40 day reflection on the Beatitudes.
Annual Vision Meeting
Please do put the AVM in your diary for Tuesday 26 March, 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. The electoral roll is now on display in the foyer, as required by church regulations. Thanks to all those who signed up for electoral roll.

We have six vacancies for PCC, so if you're interested in standing, please do have a chat with Wendy Tiffin, who is the PCC Secretary, or Dave Gentry, our electoral roll officer.  Grab them on Sunday, or reply to this email for more information. One role is for one year, the others for three years.
One off Donations to SJC
If you would like to make a one off donation or gift to the work of St. John's Colchester, we now have a fab new donations page.  We are teaming up with Wonderful.org who offer an online platform for receiving one off donations, where 100% of the donations and 100% off the gift aid come directly to St. John's (unlike some of the other organisations available).
It is a really quick and simple process to follow, just click on the button below to support the work here at SJC.

Mark & Shirley Sinclair
Mark & Shirley Sinclair, our mission partners in Cambodia, will be presenting about their work on Tuesday 19th March at 7.45pm in the Church Worship Area.  We will start with refreshments, followed by a 45 mins presentation, and then time for questions at the end.  All welcome!
Lent Course
From Wednesday 6 March, we will be running a six week course, here at the church, 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start, for all those who aren't in Clusters.  We will be joining those in Clusters, looking at the Kairos material on Building Missional Culture.  All welcome!
Cluster Events & Activities
If you have an upcoming Cluster event, please do contact the church office and we can promote it here for you.  If you would like to know more about Clusters and Discipleship groups, please do speak to one of the team on Sunday.
There will be a group of us meeting again for Sharing Lunch Together on Sunday 17 March at 12:45 in the Craft Nurseries Restaurant in Ardleigh.  If you are having Sunday lunch on your own but would like to join us then please see Mary Anthony at Church or email pastoral@stjohnscolchester.org.uk
Please let Mary know by Friday 15th March for confirming places. We look forward to seeing you again and some who may not have joined us yet.
Have a tube of Smarties on us, eat the chocolates and then fill the tube with 20p coins!  Over time you can gradually collect approximately £12.  Once full, bring it back and exchange it for a brand new tube of Smarties - that you can eat and fill again!   Please get behind the 40 people that are heading to Romania over the course of 2019 to continue the orphanage community project.
A perfect event to invite friends and family.  Booking is essential so we know how much curry to cook!  Tickets are £10 per head, which includes food and singing.  Steve Higgins and the Romania Team, shiggins861@gmail.com

MISSION PARTNER PRAYER - Geoff & Marie-Louise Read in Luxembourg

As we look back over our first year, we have so much to be thankful for:
- the way in which God prepared and accompanied us each step of the way in what was a major upheaval (and the third house move in four years)
- the warm welcome we received from our local family, our neighbourhood and church community
- the times we as a family have been able to see each other despite the fact we now live in three different countries
- the constructive collaboration with leaders in our church and dialogue with other English-speaking churches in Luxembourg
- the growing openness within the church to embrace change
- good relationships with civic authorities and other faith groups
- the immediate provision of a fulfilling teaching position in a state-funded European school for Marie-Louise
?? We would value your prayers for:
- Geoff’s continued work with the Church Council on identifying the vision for our church for the coming year(s)
- our planned Lent soup suppers and holy conversation
- the next Alpha Course, due to start after Easter
- Marie-Louise’s continued work, especially ongoing training and exams
- Protection on all of us, Rebecca & Colin, still based at Alpha Europe and KXC in the heart of London and Katya entering her final phase of qualifying as a lawyer at the university of Cologne - we are looking forward to celebrating her successful completion of Part 1 (LLB) at UCL in July.
- maintaining our spiritual passion while serving a more traditional and liturgical community than at St John’s
We greatly value your faithful prayer support in this great adventure of serving English-speaking international people in the heart of Europe.

Text for 2019

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(2 Tim 3:16-17 NIV)
St John's Church, in common with the Church of England is committed, as part of the Christian Church living in the spirit of the Gospel, to protect and care for everyone and we aim to be a beacon of best practice in safeguarding. Looking the other way is not an option.  Should you have any safeguarding concerns, you can contact our Parish Safeguarding Representative Peter Hassard on safeguarding@stjohnscolchester.org.uk or by phone on 07813 867165.
