Electoral Roll & Annual Vision Meeting
This year, Church of England regulations require us to start our Electoral Roll all over again.  Forms are available from the welcome team and the church office.  If you have been worshipping with us for more than six months, then please do take a form!  Being on the electoral roll gives you the ability to vote at our upcoming Annual Vision Meeting on 26 March, as well as other benefits, such as being eligible to stand for PCC.  It also helps us to show the Diocese a snapshot of where we are as a church.

We have some vacancies for PCC, so if you're interested in standing, please do have a chat with Wendy Tiffin, who is the PCC Secretary, or Dave Gentry, our electoral roll officer.  Grab them on Sunday, or reply to this email for more information.
One off Donations to SJC
If you would like to make a one off donation or gift to the work of St. John's Colchester, we now have a fab new donations page.  We are teaming up with who offer an online platform for receiving one off donations, where 100% of the donations and 100% off the gift aid come directly to St. John's (unlike some of the other organisations available).
It is a really quick and simple process to follow, just click on the button below to support the work here at SJC.

Creative Wednesday
This Wednesday 20 February we have flower arranging with Nicci in the morning and then Crafting for Romania meets at 2pm.  Please speak to Nicci if you'd like to join the flower arrangers.  If you're a knitter/crocheter/any other sort of crafter, then come along at 2pm, when Eileen and the team will be waiting with a warm welcome!
The Revd Ruth Patten, currently Priest in Charge in the Benefice of Great Dunmow and Barnston in the Diocese of Chelmsford, has been appointed as the next Archdeacon of Colchester.

Ruth will begin her ministry as Archdeacon of Colchester in May 2019. She succeeds the Venerable Annette Cooper who retired in November 2018.

Please pray for Ruth as she prepares to take up her new role.
Lent Course
From Wednesday 6 March, we will be running a six week course, here at the church, from 7.30pm, for all those who aren't in Clusters.  We will be following the same material that the Cluster and Discipleship groups are looking at.  All welcome!
There will be no Silent Prayer this month - sorry. After chatting with Andy, we have decided to suspend Silent Prayer sessions for the time being. There continue to be difficulties in finding a quiet space to meet on evenings that people can manage. Also, we have not managed to find someone to take over the leadership of this once I move away. So, reluctantly, we have agreed to stop meeting for the moment. It has been a very positive experience for those of us who have been able to pray together and I know Andy is keen to pick it up again in the future. So, keep your eyes on the weekly notices.......

MISSION PARTNER PRAYER - Mark & Shirley Sinclair - OMF Cambodia, currently in the UK

-Give thanks for our safe arrival in the UK and settling into a nice flat in South Shields.
-We are also thankful for opportunities to spend time with Lisa and Martin, as well as with Mark's mother and elderly Aunt. We are in South Shields this home assignment in order to help and support his mother, who is becoming increasingly housebound due to her health. Please pray that God will guide us in the best way to to support her, and that we will have some clear plans by the time we hope to return to Cambodia in July.
-Our schedule is not yet fully worked out yet for our time in the UK - please pray for wisdom in making plans. We will visit St John's in the week of 15th to 22nd March.
-Please pray for our OMF team in Cambodia and for ministries that we are involved in there: Mark's teaching at the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia and Shirley's supervision and training of Cambodian Christian counsellors. Pray for our ongoing contact with our Cambodian friends and colleagues while we are here in the UK and that all will be well in our absence.

Text for 2019

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
(2 Tim 3:16-17 NIV)
St John's Church, in common with the Church of England is committed, as part of the Christian Church living in the spirit of the Gospel, to protect and care for everyone and we aim to be a beacon of best practice in safeguarding. Looking the other way is not an option.  Should you have any safeguarding concerns, you can contact our Parish Safeguarding Representative Peter Hassard on or by phone on 07813 867165.
